Dedza Council Hails E-Payment Migration; Cost Effective

Dedza district council officials have hailed the introduction of E-Payment for the beneficiaries of Climate Smart Enhanced Public Works Programme (CS-EPWP) and Social Cash Transfer Programme (SCTP), calling it a big relief.

Principal Social Welfare Officer, responsible for the Social Cash Transfer Programme (SCTP), Mtende Lungu said the manual way of payment was consuming more resources.

“The migration from manual payment to E-payment will cut expenses of fuel, allowances and security. It should be noted that the beneficiaries have also been spending a lot of time waiting to get their wages, and this was very unfair to the already less privileged people.

“We are therefore excited about the new development as it will help the beneficiaries to easily access the money in their mobile phones and continue doing various works,” said Lungu.

On her part, the District Project Facilitator for the Climate Smart Enhanced Public Works Programme (CS-EPWP), Jocaster Mnemba Khoriyo said they will embrace the transition.

“Previously, the council used to disburse the funds manually but as you know government is moving to digital payments, and we all have to accept the systems. This will address the issue of security and convenience as it prevents the risk of being robbed,” she said.

She, however, added that the beneficiaries are earmarked to be receiving their wages through TNM Mpamba therefore, TNM will use either stationed or mobile agents while assuring the beneficiaries to will be at ease with the new system.

In Dedza, there are 19,592 household beneficiaries under the SCTP, a program being implemented by the National Local Government Finance Committee through the district council with funding from the Social Protection, Multi-Donor Trust Fund and the World Bank.

On the other hand, CS-EPWP has 21 411 participants in all the 24 catchments in the district, a component of the Social Support for Resilient Livelihoods and is being implemented under the NLGFC with funding from the World Bank.
