Kabambe Denies Assaulting any Person at Auction Floors; AHL is Lying

On 17th June 2025, Auction Holdings Limited (AHL), through its subsidiary AHL Tobacco Sales Limited, released a statement accusing UTM President Dr Kabambe and members of the party of forcibly entering Chinkhoma Auction Floors, assaulting security personnel, and disrupting operations. In his response Kabambe said does not approach issues as mere political leader, but as a patriotic Malawian compelled by the suffering of our people. He said his responsibility is to defend truth, to speak for the voiceless, and to challenge the misuse of power that has brought our country to its knees. He further refuted the claims by Auction Holding Limited as mere fabrications and falsehoods designed to tarnish his reputations and silence voices that dare to speak the truth. He clarifies that he did not go to Chinkhoma to cause chaos. He said he went there to witness the pain of our farmers. “I went to stand with those who feed this country’s economy, yet sleep hungry”. He said. Kabambe claims that he met farmers who cannot afford a bicycle, who live in broken homes, who have worked for months only to be handed a pittance for their tobacco. Their cries broke my heart. Kabambe further acknowledged that the tragedy deepened when he was told of a story of Lameck, a farmer—already drowning in debt—who collapsed and died after realizing that the price offered for his tobacco would not allow him to repay his input loan, nor pay his workers. Lameck died, not from disease, but from despair. Kabambe said that is the real crisis that AHL’s press release failed to address, the collapse of fairness, the erosion of hope, and the suffering of the very people who sustain our economy. The UTM president reiterated that instead of addressing this human catastrophe, the Chakwera administration chooses to politicize public institutions and demonize anyone who exposes the truth. He said this is not an isolated incident. “I was previously blocked from delivering a public lecture at Mzuzu University. I was denied access to Chancellor College. To this day, I have not been allowed to speak at LUANAR. What do all these places have in common?” Kabambe complained. Kabambe said these are state-funded institutions, but they are now manipulated by those in power to exclude opposition voices. In his communication to AHL, Kabambe said this was a coordinated attempt to suppress democracy—to turn public institutions into tools of political control, where voices of reason are silenced and dissent is criminalized. Kabambe said this is extended to the public broadcaster MBC which has been turned into a mouthpiece of propaganda, led by politically aligned individuals. “And to our farmers—the soul of our land—I say: you have been abandoned, you have been neglected, but you are not alone. I, together with UTM, stand with you. And we will change this broken system. Through bold leadership and targeted investment, we will restore dignity to agriculture. Kabambe said. Kabambe refuses to be intimidated with threats and false statements. “I say this: you can bar me from universities, you can block me from auction floors, but you will never stop the will of the Malawian people because Malawi is ready.
