Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika Wins the 2025 Presidential Election with Landslide

The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has announced that former President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has defeated former pastor, Dr Lazarus Chakwera in a nail- bite elections.

Mutharika has amassed 3,035,249 representing a 56.8% while his main challenger got 1, 765, 170 representing a 33%. with 22% margin between the two.

In her remarks during the announcement of results, Justice Annabel Mtalimanja emphasized that the election was free, fair and credible.

President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika’s come back is based on the promise he made that he wants to overcome the public discontent by boosting the economy and creating jobs.

His comeback is a testament that Malawians have now engaged in a mature manner when it comes to managing democracy. In his campaign speeches, Mutharika has been saying that he only needs close to 1 year to change the structure of the country.

“We are a people battered by economic crises and hardships and my government will fix this problem within 6 months, the hunger will be over,” said Mutharika. Tomorrow morning, Mutharika is expected to address the nation.
