MCP MP Illias Abdul Karim Dumps MCP; More MCP MPs Go as Independent Candidates

The ruling Malawi Congress Party-MCP Member of Parliament for Chikwawa South, Illias Abdul Karim has dumped the party and he has since announced that he will stand as an independent candidate in the forthcoming elections.

One local online publication broke the story after speaking to him.

In his remarks, Karim says looking at the political atmosphere, he has decided to stand as an independent candidate.

“Several traditional leaders, business people, women and youths have been asking me to stand on independent tickets because they believe the party has been out of touch with the grassroot and in a democracy you are free to associate with any political grouping of your choice,” said Karim.

Last week, reports were rife that Karim who is close relative to Minister of Water and Sanitation, Abida Mia, turned down the offer to join the government as Deputy Minister of Local Government Unity and Culture replacing the late Joyce Chitsulo.

On Monday, July 15, 2025, MEC opened the official campaign period.

The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has announced a schedule for the presentation of nomination papers for presidential candidates starting Thursday, July 24 with former President Dr Joyce Banda at 9am. “The Malawi Electoral Commission wishes to inform all presidential candidates that, political parties and the general public that the presentation of nomination for the Presidential Election will take place on Thursday, July 24 to Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at the Bingu Wa Mutharika International Convention Center (BICC),” reads part of the communication. Atupele Muluzi will be presenting his nomination papers on Saturday in the morning, Kondwani Nankhumwa and Cosmas Chijopola in the afternoon. On Sunday, there will be Dr Dalitso Kabambe in the morning then Akwame Bandawe and Rev Kaliya in the afternoon. Come Monday, Davie Mbewe in the morning, while in the afternoon there will be Davie Mbewe and Kamuzu Chibambo. On Tuesday there will be Dr Michael Usi in the morning then in the afternoon there will be Jordan Sauti and Dr Cassim Chilumpha. On Wednesday morning which is the last day, there will be Smart Swira in the morning before Dr Lazarus Chakwera presents his papers in the afternoon. But will rumours of alliances come up, it is worth noting that some presidential candidates will not present the papers at MEC. The fierce battle now is between the incumbent Dr Lazarus Chakwera and Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika who is currently leading by over 40% according to the Afrobarometer survey results mainly because of the economy which is in shambles at the moment. Chakwera Launches MCP Manifesto for the 2025 General Elections

President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera has officially launched the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) manifesto for the 2025 General Elections, unveiling a five-point development agenda aimed at transforming the country. The manifesto, unveiled at a high-profile event held at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, is anchored on five core pillars, Food Security, Job and Wealth Creation, Governance, Reform, Rebooting the System and Public service delivery. He stated that, the strategic pillars, are designed to drive the realization of the Malawi 2063 agenda, a long-term national development strategy aimed at transforming the country into a wealthy and self-sufficient nation. Addressing thousands of supporters at the stadium, President Chakwera expressed his gratitude to the 2.6 million Malawians who voted for him during the 2020 elections, describing their support as the foundation of his leadership. Taking the audience down memory lane, he reflected on the challenges the nation has faced over the past five years, including the COVID-19 pandemic, Cyclone Freddy, a cholera outbreak, and the tragic death of former Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima. Despite these hardships, Chakwera commended Malawians for their resilience and unity, stating that it is this spirit that has enabled his administration to record significant progress. Among the achievements highlighted were the creation of over two million jobs for young people, out of the six million previously unemployed, a reduction in attacks on people with albinism, and the successful rollout of mega farms across the country. The President also commended Malawi’s development partners for their invaluable contributions to the country’s development efforts. Chakwera, Chihana Face off in Presidential Debate; Chimwendo, Limbe Disclose

Secretary Generals of the ruling Malawi Congress Party-MCP and Alliance for Democracy-AFORD , Richard Chimwendo Banda and Limbe have today signaled that their party leaders would be willing to participate in the presidential debate before elections. The two leaders met the Presidential Debates Task Force which is chaired by Golden Matonga on Wednesday, 23 July 2025 in Lilongwe to discuss issues regarding the upcoming debates. In his remarks, Chimwendo Banda expressed hope that President Dr Lazarus Chakwera will be part of the debates but he needed time to consult before giving a definite answer. “I will be back on the President’s participation. He (the President) has attended the two debates in the past, and there is no reason not to attend the debates this year. I am very optimistic he will attend,” said Chimwendo Banda who is also Minister of Local Government Unity and Culture. On her part Linda Limbe, principally agreed to participate in the debates but signaled that her boss has the final authority on the matter. This year’s debates will likely focus on people’s view of the economy, hunger, corruption, Chikangawa Forest plane clash, Women and Youth employment as key issues. UDF and PP have already accepted to be part of the debate.

MCP Set up Three Covert Centres to Rig Elections for September 16

There are allegations that MCP has spent $289,000 to set up three unofficial election Centers in Nkhotakota, Mchinji, Salima for Vote Rigging proving Prophet Liabunya’s Vision true. After weeks of surveillance, monitoring internet traffic, and gathering intelligence from communication partners, this publication can now confidently reveal that the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), allegedly under the direction of Daud Suleman — the Director General of MACRA — has established three parallel voting centers in the central region districts of Salima, Nkhotakota, and Mchinji. He is working Directly with Richard Chimwendo Banda, Moses Kunkuyu, Script kid Marcfarene Mgwirinji, one guy from Mozambique, one guy based in Balaka, one police officer from Area 30 and others whose identities we will not reveal. These covert centers are already operational, disguised as community support hubs offering various services to local populations. In exchange, the MCP is reportedly collecting biometric and personal data from citizens — data allegedly intended for electoral manipulation. A staggering $289,000 has reportedly been spent to establish and maintain these centers. The facilities are strategically located in remote or under-monitored areas, with hidden access routes linking them to Lilongwe. These routes are reportedly used to transport equipment and data discreetly, avoiding detection. According to the covert operation, below are the identified locations: • Border Village (Mchinji): Situated near the Malawi-Zambia border, approximately around 10.5°S, 33.5°E. This location is hard to reach and reportedly being used to enroll “ghost voters” due to its low visibility and weak oversight. • Rural Health Clinic (Salima): Located in a remote area, approximately 12.9°S, 34.3°E. Operating under the guise of a public health initiative, this center provides free healthcare to those who present identification — which MCP operatives are allegedly using to collect personal and biometric data. • Nkhotakota Community Hall Vicinity: Also near 12.9°S, 34.3°E, this location serves as a training facility and data transfer hub for MCP agents ahead of polls. According to sources, these centers are being operated off-grid — with no telecommunications devices connected to mobile networks or internet services. Instead, they are using analog communication methods. Data collected on-site is stored on USB drives and physically transported to other locations for processing and later to a central point for final transmission. It is alleged that insiders within the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) are involved in the final stages of the operation, where the manipulated data will be integrated into the official election system. Interestingly, this covert operation aligns with earlier claims by controversial prophet Austin Liabunya. The prophet had warned of a plan by some Malawians to override the will of the people during upcoming elections — a vision many dismissed at the time. Further allegations suggest that MCP operatives are also using SS7 protocol exploits, a capability reportedly accessible through MACRA, to interfere with telecommunications and cover their tracks. This unfolding situation raises serious concerns about the integrity of Malawi’s electoral process and calls for immediate investigation and action by relevant authorities.
