MEC Resolving Complaints Likely not to Affect the Outcome of the Elections
There are serious allegations that presiding officers (DC’s) have connived with ruling Malawi Congress Party-MCP to doctor the will of the people by arranging pre- marked ballots.
The deal is that after voting, ballot boxes will be put in the waiting room where only the DC is allowed to inspect. Meanwhile, the MCP are twisting the narrative to suggest that MCP monitors were allegedly bribed by the opposition DPP in order to manipulate the figures in favour of DPP candidate, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika.
This information is coming from MCP top hierarchy members who are frustrated with president Dr Lazarus Chakwera’s administration.
Malawi Electoral Commission is left with one day to conclude the verification of votes before announcing the final results. So far by 22nd September 2025, MEC has already physically received results at the national tally centre from all the 36 councils across the nation.
The commission communicated that it has not yet not complete the determination of the results from Ntcheu, Nkhotakota, Nkhata Bay, Mangochi Municipality and Machinga.
According to MEC, the issues are mostly in relation to some minor discrepancies that the Commission observed and complaints that the Commission received that are mentioning these councils. The Commission has since resolved the issue from Machinga, Nkhotakota; and Nkhatabay
The Commission continues to review and resolve complaints. All complaints will be resolved and complainants will be informed of the
manner in which the complaints have been resolved. Malawians are eagerly waiting for the commission to officially announce the results and declare who has won the elections by tomorrow as the eight days comes to an end.
