Minister Pledges Government’s Support to Develop Grassroots Football
Silver Strikers, the Lilongwe-based soccer giants, and Mighty Wanderers, a club with a rich history from Blantyre, are set to clash again in just two weeks following their meeting in this year’s FDH Bank Cup final. Sparks are expected to fly in Saturday’s explosive encounter.
Mighty Wanderers will be eager to avenge the painful defeat they suffered in the cup final and aim to extend their lead on the TNM Super League table, boosting their chances of finally winning the league title that has long eluded them.
On the other hand, Silver Strikers, currently sitting in third place, will be aiming for victory to narrow the gap on the log table.
So far this season, Wanderers have played 21 games and lead the league with 51 points, while Silver Strikers have played 20 games and occupy third position with 40 points. Mighty Wanderers remain unbeaten in 21 matches this season, and a win on Saturday would increase the gap between the two teams to 14 points.
The Super League of Malawi had initially scheduled the match at Silver Stadium, but Sulom announced during the week that the venue has been changed to Bingu National Stadium.
Alfred Chilinda has been appointed as the referee for this titanic clash. Chilinda, who also officiated the first-round game between Mighty Wanderers and Civil, will be assisted by Clemence Kanduku and Samson Wasili. Jimmy Phiri will serve as the fourth official, and Simon Jovinala has been appointed as the match assessor, according to Sulom.
