Blantyre Mayor Calls for Urgent Cleanup and Infrastructure Overhaul in Limbe

Blantyre City Mayor, His Lordship Isaac Jomo Osman, has issued a strong call to action for the rejuvenation of Limbe township following a comprehensive inspection tour on Wednesday, November 26, 2025.

The Mayor, accompanied by Deputy Mayor Gerald Lipikwe, the Blantyre City Council (BCC) Chief Executive Officer, the Deputy Director of Engineering, and other senior officials, visited key parts of Limbe to assess persistent sanitation and infrastructure challenges.

Speaking after the tour, Mayor Osman expressed deep concern over the deteriorating state of the township. He cited dilapidated pavements, malfunctioning sewerage systems, and widespread littering as critical issues requiring immediate intervention.

“We cannot allow this situation to continue,” Mayor Osman said. “Limbe is an important commercial hub, and its current condition does not reflect the standards we expect for our city. We must take responsibility—both as a council and as a community—to maintain our environment.”

The Mayor urged business owners, vendors, and residents to take greater responsibility for cleanliness, warning that the council will begin enforcing sanitation bylaws more strictly. “Anyone found littering will face consequences. Cleanliness is everyone’s duty,” he stressed.

Since assuming office, Mayor Osman has launched several initiatives aimed at improving urban management, restoring order in commercial areas, and enhancing service delivery. His hands-on approach has earned praise from many residents who have long demanded stronger leadership on sanitation and infrastructure issues.

The Limbe visit signals the council’s renewed commitment to reviving one of Blantyre’s busiest commercial zones, which has for years suffered from congestion, poor waste disposal, and deteriorating infrastructure.

Residents and business communities in Limbe have welcomed the Mayor’s intervention, expressing hope that the council’s renewed focus will translate into visible improvements. Many say they look forward to a cleaner, safer, and more organized township.

As the Blantyre City Council prepares to roll out intensified cleanup and infrastructure rehabilitation efforts, Wednesday’s tour marks what many believe may be the beginning of a long-awaited transformation for Limbe.
