Unity in DPP, Catalyst for Winning Elections
DPP Vice President for the Central Region Alfred Gangata has emphasized the need for unity and stability in the party as keys for winning the September polls. He was speaking in Lilongwe during the presentation of certificates to several aspiring MPs and councillors who won during primary elections. Gangata said Malawians are hungry for change and that it is only Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika who can bring unity in the country and stabilise the economy before the country plunges into hyperinflation. “As a party, we must be thinking of creating a better future for the next generation. I urge fellow citizens to judge DPP based on its past economic history and how the economy grew. We had no runaway inflation. We had women traveling outside the country doing businesses and not going to UNGA to shop, siphoning the little forex we have, Malawi was a stabilized unlike the under the MCP government which came into power based on falsehoods. We are a party that promises what we can do under Professor Arthur Peter,” said Gangata. Gangata is one of the youthful leaders in DPP who is holding a very senior position in the party.

Chakwera’s Government Under Fire For Lavish Spending
The MCP-led administration, headed by President Lazarus Chakwera, has come under intense scrutiny for its reckless spending habits. With commodities and essential goods skyrocketing in price daily, citizens are feeling the pinch. Meanwhile, the President and his cabinet members seem to be on a spending spree, indulging in frequent, high-cost travels. A leaked list of cabinet ministers currently abroad has sparked outrage, with notable absences including: – Jessie Kabwila in Thailand – Patricia Kainga Nangozo in Morocco – Vitumbiko Mumba in Japan – Jacob Hara in Tanzania – Nancy Tembo in China – Zikhale Ng’oma in China – Vera Kamtukule in Zimbabwe President Chakwera is set to attend the Afroximbank meeting in Nigeria, while his Vice President represents the country at Mozambique’s 50th anniversary celebrations. Critics argue that these travels are ill-timed, given the country’s crippled economy and struggles with fuel and sugar shortages. The opposition is capitalizing on the situation, questioning the government’s priorities and fiscal management. With the tripartite elections scheduled for September 16, President Chakwera’s re-election prospects appear uncertain, as Malawians demand accountability and prudent leadership.

SOS Over Increasing Exploitation and Endangerment of Children during Electoral Activities
The National Children’s Commission (NCC) has raised alarm over the increasing exploitation and endangerment of children during electoral activities, warning political stakeholders to prioritize children’s rights and protection as the 2025 elections approach. Speaking at a press briefing in Lilongwe, NCC Vice Chairperson Commissioner Benedicto Kondowe emphasised that the Commission, established under the 2019 Act of Parliament, has the legal mandate to hold duty bearers accountable. “Children are not tools, they are citizens,” he stressed, citing constitutional and international instruments that safeguard children’s rights. The NCC called for formal child protection protocols within political parties, child-focused desks in electoral bodies, and the deployment of trained child rights observers. It also advocated for the implementation of the Malawi Children’s Manifesto to guide future policy. While systematic documentation is underway, Kondowe acknowledged various reports of violations shared through social media. He reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to monitoring, reporting, and taking action where necessary. “Our goal is a Malawi where children are safe, respected, and empowered,” he concluded. “Child protection is not optional, it’s our legal and moral duty.” he said

For those who still doubted whether Michael Usi and the Odya Zake Alibe Mlandu movement are truly connecting with the masses across Malawi — 15 June 2025 gave them something to chew on. From the bustling streets of Blantyre to Zomba, through Chinamwali township, and from as far as Songani and Malosa, throngs of people — many draped in vibrant Odya Zake regalia , poured into Naisi Ground in Zomba for yet another electrifying regional launch of this fast-rising political force. At the heart of it all stood the party’s President and the country’s Vice President, Right Honourable Dr. Michael Bizwick Usi, delivering a powerful message to the mammoth crowd that had gathered in hopeful anticipation. “Odya Zake is not just a political party — it’s a movement that will usher in an economic revolution, built on love, peace, and inclusion,” declared Dr. Usi. He emphasized that under his leadership, no Malawian will be left behind, regardless of political affiliation, tribe, or background. “Malawians have been their own worst enemies because they’ve allowed vices like corruption, jealousy, and the pull-him-down syndrome to thrive. It’s time for a mindset change, and Odya Zake is here to lead that transformation.” Dr. Usi further assured the crowd that Odya Zake Alibe Mlandu will participate in the upcoming elections — in full force. MCP to Pay MK666 Million in Nomination Fees for 228 MP and 480 Council Aspirants; a Matter of Public Concern
As Malawi grapples with a deepening economic crisis, with citizens struggling to make ends meet, civil servants and security agencies pleading for salary increases, and hospitals running out of essential medicines. The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has announced plans to pay MK666 million in nomination fees for its parliamentary and local government candidates, this publication can reveal. According to a private communication seen by this publication, the party will cover fees for all its candidates contesting in the 2025 elections. The message reads: “Good afternoon Hon Members, I have some good news. Please take note that the Party will pay nomination fees for ALL its candidates at all contested levels. The Secretariat will make further administrative announcements.” The breakdown of the fees is as follows: MK2.5 million for each of the 228 parliamentary aspirants, totaling MK570 million, and MK200,000 for each of the 480 councilor aspirants, totaling MK96 million. This revelation has raised serious questions among citizens and watchdog organizations about the source of these funds, especially given the party’s failure to disclose its financing mechanisms. The timing has added to public outrage, as Malawi’s poverty index has worsened over the past five years, slipping from position 75 to 80 globally despite government promises of economic reform. Critics argue that the MCP’s financial decision is tone-deaf in a country burdened by corruption, poor economic management, and growing inequality. Several scandals have rocked the Chakwera administration, involving alleged siphoning of public funds. Yet, no significant action has been taken against those implicated. In a further blow to confidence in the government, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) recently cancelled its credit facility for Malawi, citing concerns over financial mismanagement, policy failures, and persistent corruption. The MCP’s move has left many Malawians shocked and demanding accountability. In a climate where most citizens are suffering and public services are deteriorating, the party’s ability to mobilize such significant resources has intensified calls for transparency and independent audits.
