Chakwera Withdraws Election Court Case

President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has ordered his party through its legal team to withdraw their application for judicial review on the presidential election results which Justice Howard Pemba granted them, MCP Publicity Secretary, Jessie Kabwila has disclosed. Kabwila said there is no purpose of going to court when the candidate himself has decided to concede defeat. “MCP and Chakwera have announced the concession of defeat in the September 16 polls. It will be pointless to go to the same court to argue when the truth has already been told to the nation. We lost the election fairly and we must go to the drawing board to figure out what went wrong,” said Kabwila. Chakwera challenged the results based on irregularities that may have not affected the outcome of the election but Pemba only gave them judicial review and denied injunction stopping MEC from announcing the results.

MEC Resolving Complaints Likely not to Affect the Outcome of the Elections

There are serious allegations that presiding officers (DC’s) have connived with ruling Malawi Congress Party-MCP to doctor the will of the people by arranging pre- marked ballots. The deal is that after voting, ballot boxes will be put in the waiting room where only the DC is allowed to inspect. Meanwhile, the MCP are twisting the narrative to suggest that MCP monitors were allegedly bribed by the opposition DPP in order to manipulate the figures in favour of DPP candidate, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika. This information is coming from MCP top hierarchy members who are frustrated with president Dr Lazarus Chakwera’s administration. Malawi Electoral Commission is left with one day to conclude the verification of votes before announcing the final results. So far by 22nd September 2025, MEC has already physically received results at the national tally centre from all  the 36 councils across the nation. The commission communicated that it has not yet not complete the determination of the results from Ntcheu, Nkhotakota, Nkhata Bay, Mangochi Municipality and  Machinga. According to MEC, the issues are mostly in relation to some minor discrepancies that the Commission observed and complaints that the Commission received that are mentioning these councils. The Commission has since resolved the issue from Machinga, Nkhotakota; and Nkhatabay The Commission continues to review and resolve complaints. All complaints will be resolved and complainants will be informed of the manner in which the complaints have been resolved. Malawians are eagerly waiting for the commission to officially announce the results and declare who has won the elections by tomorrow as the eight days comes to an end.

MDF Invades MCP Gang Leader Munlo’s Mchesi Residence; recovered Panga Knives and Firearms

In a significant security operation, Malawi Defence Force (MDF) soldiers conducted a raid on the compound of MCP-affiliated gang leader Munlo in Mchesi township. According to eyewitness accounts, heavily armed troops apprehended several gang members found in possession of firearms and machetes a couple of days ago. The operation reportedly targeted a group believed to be preparing to launch attacks against opposition supporters in Lilongwe. A senior MDF officer confirmed the arrests and stated that detainees were being transported to Kamuzu Barracks for processing. The primary target, gang leader Munlo, was not present during the operation, prompting security forces to initiate a manhunt to locate him. This development occurs as Malawians conclude voting in a tightly contested presidential election widely seen as a referendum on President Lazarus Chakwera’s first term. The election takes place amid severe economic challenges, including inflation exceeding 33% for three years, widespread poverty affecting 70% of the population and critical fuel and forex shortages.

Women, The Backbone of Socioeconomic Development

Tadala Hannah Chihana, the wife of the incoming Second Vice President, Enoch Kamzingeni Chihana has underscored the importance of empowering and uplifting women across all sectors of the governance institutions saying women are the backbone of the economy. Speaking in Rumphi where she is engaging over 4,000 women ahead of Tuesday elections, madam Chihana said the country must build a society where every woman has the opportunity to reach their full potential. “From us the message is clear in both policy and practice that our women are not just beneficiaries of development but architects of it. Our mission as a political organization is very simple: every woman matters- they are bedrock of socioeconomic transformation and we will continue to honour their blunt sacrifice by giving them support. “But beyond personal anecdotes, we must confront the harsh realities Malawian women face today. Behind each society, there is a sister, mother or daughter who works tirelessly everyday but still goes to bed hungry, bearing the heaviest burdens of inequality. This has to change because the well-being of women remains a pivotal indicator of how well any Nation is doing in driving her development plans.

APM Hits Back at UTM Presidential Candidate, Kabambe

Democratic Progressive Party president Arthur Peter Mutharika has told UTM leaders to stop castigating him and making assertions that he (Mutharika) is too old to govern for 5 years should he win the September 16, 2025 elections. Professor Mutharika who rarely comments on criticisms heaped on him by his political opponents, on Saturday August 30, 2025 hit back at UTM for its continuous attack. He told its leadership to stop this madness or stupidity and to go away since its leaders ditched DPP and went into an electoral alliance with Malawi Congress Party in the 2020 fresh presidential election. Mutharika said it is naive or myopic for opposition leaders to think that if he wins the election, he will handover power to his vice president and retire, he said he has been making alot of effort since losing power in 2020 therefore it is inconceivable to relinquish power after elections. He touted the DPP manifesto as people centered aimed at changing lives of ordinary Malawians and develop the country. Meanwhile almost all political party leaders and the ruling Malawi Congress Party are unanimously attacking APM as if the ball is in his court. It rare to see an opposition party attacking another opposition candidate in a general elections. Nevertheless, it all points out to the fact that they have realized that APM is forming the next government come 16 September, 2025.

Mutharika Predicts Outright Victory; Warns UTM to Stop Attacking Him

Lilongwe and surrounding districts which are considered Malawi Congress Party stronghold have in the past seven days, witnessed unprecedented crowds coming to catch a glimpse of Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika and attending opposition DPP rallies. For example, the rally which took place on Saturday, 30th August, 2025 at Chilimampunga ground in Mtandire, Lilongwe, a milestone attendance was reached as some supporters started gathering Friday evening while others were gathering first thing on Saturday morning to secure a good spot to show their dedication to the party. Speaking to a mammoth crowd that thronged Chilimampunga ground, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika urged voters to vote massively for him and the party to avoid a rerun, saying outright victory would help save money as Malawi’s economy cannot afford two elections. Mutharika asked Malawians to demonstrate their support and love for him by casting their vote since his comeback is a response to their call for him to return and save the country. “My return to contest was not for myself but to rescue Malawi”, Mutharika told the gathering. For his political opponents who have been going around telling Malawians not to vote for him because he does not have energy to serve well, Mutharika was defiant and responded with rancor saying he will never abdicate or relinquish power to his vice because he feels strong and equal to the task. I am workaholic, I have been working from dusk to down for the past 5 years to keep the party strong and united, so how can I rule for only 2 months and abdicate? Wondered Mutharika. He warned UTM leaders to stop attacking him, “Stop that stupidity, stop it forever, I have no time for nonsense anymore, you left DPP saying it is a bad party, go away”, charged Mutharika while mixing it with humour. Chilimampunga ground in Mtandire is where youthful DPP vice president for the central region, Hon Alfred Gangata aspires to become the member of parliament. Mutharika’s runningmate retired Justice Hon. Dr Jane Ansah, DPP secretary general Peter Mukhito, Aford President Chihana were among attendees.

Kabambe Blocked some UTM Members from Becoming DPP Running Mate

Contrary to claims circulating in political circles, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) never offered UTM three cabinet positions in the event of a possible alliance. Instead, DPP requested that UTM submit three names for consideration for the running mate position. However, the UTM negotiating team went a step further and suggested four potential candidates: • Newton Kambala • Hellen Chabunya • Catherine Mzumara • Fredokiss Kalua. This proposal was immediately blocked by UTM’s presidential camp, led by Dalitso Kabambe, who refused to allow any of these names to be submitted to DPP and that if its not him , then nobody is going to be running mate. The primary goal behind these suggestions by DPP was to avoid a “Thyolo-Thyolo Ticket”, as both Peter Mutharika and Kabambe hail from the same district—something many viewed as politically insensitive to Malawians. The deadlock was not due to greed from DPP or UTM at large but from Kabambe and his inner circle, who insisted he was the only acceptable candidate. In a surprising turn, after DPP entered into an alliance with AFORD, Kabambe reportedly made a desperate attempt to return to DPP negotiations, this time seeking consideration for the position of Second Vice President. However, he was informed that it was too late—the agreement with AFORD had already been finalized. W e can confidently say that Kabambe , is the greedy one amongst all .

The government of President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika through its manifesto has made inclusive growth and job creation our apex priority and we want our vendors to be key players in our economy “Micro, small and medium enterprises and cooperatives together form a vital part of our economy with immense growth potential. Whether they are small businesses in townships or cooperatives in rural areas, whether they are well established or just starting out, these businesses are integral to the future of our economy,” said Chihana. Later, he was joined by the AFORD shadow MP for the area, Paul Nthambazale Nyirenda and urged them to cast the vote for him and Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika.
