M’mbelwa said this year’s Umthetho has been deliberately designed to celebrate diversity as a means to celebrate culture because of the forthcoming elections in September “This festival this year is unique as we celebrate Umthetho in the middle of campaign. And because at this festival there are political parties, I want to appeal to all of you to observe peace through issue based campaign,” said M’mbelwa He said Malawi has been associated with peace as the warm heart of Africa and no election should disrupt such peace. He warned that no development initiatives can happen when people are fighting through politics. “This is the reason I say lets avoid campaign that may anger others. Focus on what you will offer when elected as president. Development cannot take place where people fight. We have a country to develop after all the politics, “he said. M’mbelwa also hailed Chakwera as a true cultural custodian for promoting cultural events through attendance of various cultural events, including the Umthetho, which he observed, he frequently attended. Democratic Progressive Party through its Youth Director (South) Bizzaer Kalulu has given police 3 days to arrest MCP thugs who assaulted and stubbed its supporters in Limbe after attending a campaign rally Mjamba Freedom park in Blantyre on Sunday, August 4, 2025. President Arthur Peter Mutharika who is DPP torch-bearer for the September 16 elections launched the party’s manifesto and campaign at Njamba where party leaders and supporters from all the districts in the southern region attended. According to Hon. Kalulu, all the suspects who allegedly attacked DPP supporters are well-known are ruling party supporters and their ring leader is Nsakho Mhango. He has therefore, given police 3 days to arrest all those involved in the attack or else, DPP youth will fish them out and hand over to police. Hon. Kalulu said one of the victims of MCP orchestrated violence, Henry Kawinga is in serious condition and currently admitted at Queen Elizabeth Central hospital. Others were treated as out-patients. Since MCP came to power 5 years ago, political violence perpetrated by its supporters has been rising and DPP followers have been on the receiving end. Despite the party lodging complaints to police, no tangible action or arrests have been made up to this time. “We can’t sit back and watch our supporters suffer MCP terror in this DPP stronghold, enough is enough, we are tired of inaction by the law-enforcers and impunity MCP thugs are enjoying in this country. Malawi belongs to all of us” he remarked. Some of those named in the violence that happened on Sunday include Juma Pitani, Patson Bamusi, Dennis Chitsulo, Senzo Pitani, Trouble Salamba, Gift Bamusi, John Mateketa, Joe Lipenga, Harrison Magola, Mayeso Taimu, Moffart and Jafali. DPP Presidential Candidate, APM Unveils Manifesto and Launches Campaign Trail
Former governing Democratic Progressive Party DPP on Sunday 3rd August, 2025 held two historical events, unveiling of 2025 election manifesto and launch of campaign trail, in the commercial capital of Blantyre. Speaking at the launch of the DPP 2025 campaign at Njamba Freedom Park, the former president of the Republic of Malawi who is also the Democratic Progressive Party torch-bearer for the forthcoming elections Professro Arthur Peter Mutharika said he is deeply concerned about the dwindling living standards for Malawians, the situation which has prompted him to answer calls by public demand for his return to rescue the country. Mutharika said once voted into power again on 16 September, his priorities will be to fix the ailing economy, critical infrastructural development and revamping the agricultural industry, which are some of the key pillars of the 2063 development goals. But for all this to be achieved, Mutharika advised all to hold hands together, saying he has been to the top of Mulanje mountain and he saw the promised land where he wants to take them. Prof. Mutharika lambasted the Chakwera-led administration for not respecting the constitution and the rule of law. He said in reference to recent developments where masked and panga- wielding men believed to be MCP supporters hacked people and stopped peaceful demonstrations held by different groups of concerned citizens of this country. The DPP leader bemoaned centralization policy pursued by the current administration which he said has deprived many cities including Blantyre of economic life line. He said Blantyre has been known as the commercial capital of Malawi but it is pathetic to see that all the big industries and many government offices have moved to Lilongwe. He promised to bring back the lost glory, build state – of- the art stadium because Blantyre is also sports capital of Malawi. Mzuzu will also have its own state-of-the art stadium which can meet FIFA standards to host international games. Earlier in the day, the party held a panel discussion at Sun Bird Mount Soche Hotel where it unveiled its election manifesto and it was presided over by Rt Honorable Justice Dr Jane Ansah, DPP’s running mate.

APM in the Lead by 43% in IPOR Polls; Poised to Win the September Presidential Bid
DPP Presidential candidate, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has been declared as the front- runner in the forthcoming election with the commanding lead of 43% against the incumbent Dr Lazarus Chakwera who is at a distance of 26% while Dr Dalitso Kabambe of UTM is at the lowest point of 5%. The survey was conducted by the University of Malawi (UNIMA) Research Group, Institute of Public Opinion and Research ( IPOR). Announcing the results today in Lilongwe, Professor Michael Chasukwa said many Malawians are eager to vote for new directions. The survey which was conducted between July 6 and 20, with 27 districts sampled, shows that 95% of registered voters will cast their ballots. But what has come out clear and surprising is that 50% of the youths from ages 18 to 35, they are backing the old man, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika than fellow youthful leaders, like Dr Dalitso Kabambe, Atupele Muluzi and others for obvious reasons. Reacting to the survey results, DPP Spokesperson, Shadreck Namalomba said his party is thrilled by the results. Namalomba: “the party is particularly pleased to note that His Excellency Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has a strong following among young voters with 50 percent. While the survey reports that there is a 14 percent group of undecided voters and a further 6 percent who declined to reveal their choice, we see this as a call to action and opportunity to work harder to convince these groups. With our people centered manifesto, yet to be unveiled this weekend, we are confident that we will win the election outright with over 50+1 votes,” said Namalomba. This is the second survey done by the university of Malawi. Last year, Afrobarometer also predicted that the former President would beat president Dr Lazarus Chakwera by over 45%. Meanwhile President of AFORD Enock Chihana and his party are also beating Dr Dalitso Kabambe and UTM in the national popular vote. Currently Chihana is at over 40% while Dr Dalitso Kabambe is at 5% by comparison. Therefore, with the newly formed alliance between DPP and AFORD, the prospects of winning the 16 September elations with a landslide are very high. Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika is likely to win the Presidential bid by over 50% of the votes all things equal. Both of these survey findings were released before the presentation of MEC nomination papers. With the current political landscape, time and circumstances this might have dramatically changed in favour of APM.

DPP-AFORD Alliance Deal Sealed to save Malawi from Cyclone MCP- Chakwera Disaster
“Today, we mark a new chapter in our collective concealment of a better Malawi. After a careful consideration and deliberation, the National Executive Committee of Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) has resolved to form an electoral Alliance with the Democratic Progressive Party DPP and other political Parties.” Chihana wrote. AFORD President Rt. Hon. Enoch Kamzingeni Chihana has finally sealed the electoral alliance deal with DPP at a time when some political party leaders are advancing their personal interest other than of the nation. In a press release signed by the AFORD President and seen by Khulubvi Post, Chihana has started by highlighting reasons for unity of purpose focusing on poor Malawians who are suffering under MCP poor leadership. He said, “We are all aware how we have suffered as a result of skyrocketing of prices, scarcity of fuel, lack of employment among the youth, deliberate creation of hunger due to exorbitant price of fertilizer, sheer arrogance, nepotism, mismanagement of resources through corruption and failure to adhere on austerity measures”. Chihana stated that additionally, our democracy is under threat and if not careful as leaders, Malawi will turn into a one party State. We have had enough of empty rhetoric and failed policies. As we approach the September 16 elections, he is compelled to express his profound disappointment at the total number of presidential candidates vying for the highest office in the land. With 20 individuals seeking the presidency, it is clear that many are driven by personal ambition rather than a genuine desire to serve the nation. In a country struggling with pressing economic challenges, this dissonance of candidacies is a luxury we can not afford. Chihana said that he has decided not to join this calamity of greed individuals who are eager to satisfy their personal interests and not that of a common man. He observed that greedy will not save Malawians from the clueless government and further said that it is imperious that political leaders prioritize unity, stability, socio- economic development and collective progress over individual interests. This bold step taken by AFORD President, Enock Chihana is driven by an obligation for the welfare of our great nation. AFORD believes that by joining forces with DPP, they can harness their collective strength to drive meaningful development, promote peace and ensure stability in our country. Chihana says, he is confident that this Alliance will bring about a new era of prosperity and progress for all Malawians. His special message to Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika is that Malawians are looking forward to him as a father who will guide this ship to the Promised Land. On 16th September, Mutharika is going to take-over the leadership of this country based on sustained trust given to you by your fellow Malawians. Nevertheless, Malawians are expecting a change in the way the government would be operating. He said Malawians are asking leaders to rebuild this country that has lost its moral compass. Malawians want a country where rule of law, justice, accountability and transparency become the true values of democracy. The spirit of business as usual by party zealots shall never be condoned. Chihana however warned those who are used to violence, intimidation and impunity to stay away from this crusade because some of us will not be part of a government that shields impunity and lawlessness. He appealed to alliance leaders not let Malawians down rather to build a Malawi that is inclusive, prosperous and just for all where every citizen has access to opportunities, where every voice is heard, and where every life is valued. He further urged all our supporters and the general public to join us on this journey. Let us march forward with courage, with conviction and the commitment to our nation’s progress. Meanwhile, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, torch bearer for the alliance is expected to submit his nomination papers on Friday, July 25, 2025 in Lilongwe. At least 20 candidates who collected nomination papers from the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) to contest in the Sept. 16 presidential race are expected to present their papers to the MEC from July 24 to 30.
